KRAC 137th Birthday
- September the 22nd saw our Club celebrating
its 137th year. A fantastic meal was laid
out by our chef Kadomura san and the fantastic
Hagman and his band entertained many of
our members until the early hours.
137 years makes us the oldest named and
established ex-patriot club in Japan.
The introducers of many of Japan's foreign
sports we are defiantly a club worth celebrating.
Thank you to all staff and members who
attended and let’s look forward
to the next 100 years of history.

| July 20th - The
Bon Odori International Festival
At 6:00pm, as the Bon Odori Festival
kicked into action, a constant and soaking
drizzle fell on the Isogami Ground where
the Festival was taking place. By 7:30pm,
half-way into the festivities, torrential
downpours, the hardest of the entire rainy
season, turned the grounds into more of
a mud bath than anything else.
But did this dampen the high spirits surrounding
the festival? Not at all! We may have
had to close up 30 minutes early, but
everyone moved indoors to the KRAC Clubhouse
to continue the party with spirits still
soaring high, although rather drenched!!
The party continued on all floors of
the Clubhouse, with a special Salsa Party
laid on by Mrs Murata held in the gym
on the 3rd Floor.
Thank you to all who came down to the
KR&AC on Friday 20th. It is one of
the best summer nights the KR&AC has
seen in a long time, with members from
Vissel Kobe, the Lions Club, the KR&AC
and the Kobe Club partying together with
local residents, to provide a real sense
of a truly international Kobe community.
Special thanks goes to:
Our sponsors for their kind and generous
donations.
Kawasaki San for organising the stage
and tents
The Bon Odori Dancers: Fujinkai
Takarazuka Singer: Kaze Sayaka
The Odori Band
The KR&AC and Lions Club staff and
organisers; and the Hong Kong Chinese
Restaurant for providing great food.
Mrs Murata for organising the Salsa Party
And last, but by no means least, a heartfelt
thank you to Shimizu San, Chairman of
the Lions Club and Dr. Sadhwani, President
of the KR&AC for their hard work in
the planning and organisation of this
fantastic summer festival.
Hope to see you all next year!!

May 12th - Sho Amano
What can we say about Sho Amano? He performed
to perfection and, believe it or not,
some of his tunes were better than the
original – yes, even the Eric Clapton
ones! You really had to be there.
There might not have been room for much
of a dance floor, but people were up there
anyway; swaying to the sounds of “Tears
in Heaven,” by the man himself –
Sho!
Oh yes, Sho Amano can perform! Clapton’s
Holy Mother – a walkover! Who could
have thought that anyone could cover a
Louis Armstrong number – Wonderful
World – like that?! And to go from
a Jimmy Hendrix track to the Dooby Brothers
and B.B. King’s Route 66 with the
Fabulous J-Men and Andrew Sato; the word
gob- smacked springs to mind.
Thank you Sho Amano for your brilliance. |

| May 9th - All
Blacks come to the KRAC!
On Monday Evening May 9th the KR&AC
was given the immense privilege of hosting
the Classic All Blacks. Although not in
same category as their illustrious namesake
‘The New Zealand All Blacks’,
the Classic ABs comprises members who
have all played at least one game for
the ABs at some stage in their career.
Started in the 1980s by legendary All
Black hardman, Andy Haden, the Classic
ABs were formed to offer over-35s internationals
a way to keep in touch and play in low-key
masters tournaments around the world.
Monday night’s version however was
mostly a group of 30-somethings who are
still actually playing rugby. They have
been assembled to help the Japanese rugby
team tune up for this year’s biggest
sporting event: the 2007 World Cup in
France.
Although hastily assembled, the KR&AC
was packed with members and guests in
what was possibly the KR&AC’s
greatest ever event. Certainly I am not
aware of so many of the world’s
great sporting legends being under our
roof before in our 137-year history. |
